Just over every week after it introduced that it was once gathering cash to crowdfund a sequel to its short idea movie Firebase, Neill Blomkamp ’s Oats Studios says that it’s going to refund contributions because it hadn ’t raised sufficient cash to “do something truly awesome.”
It launched a series of quick films ultimate year that were supposed as conceptual beginning issues for much larger initiatives. Blomkamp informed The Verge in advance this month that the campaign was an attempt “to arrange a state of affairs the place fans fuel our skill to continue to make stuff, and just have this one-on-one dating with the target market.”
To all backers of Firebase.. Oats shall be refunding everybody who contributed totally. Sadly we did not lift sufficient to do something truley awesome. we would moderately over ship than create a regular movie. We thank the heaps of individuals who did again us- hold in there.

The campaign seems to have fallen a long way in need of its meant function. Blomkamp didn ’t specifically speak about how a lot they were making plans on raising cash, as opposed to to say that he had written a feature-period script for Firebase, which could be shot on the cheap that used to be similar to that of District 9, or around $30 million. Then Again, Blomkamp stated that if the challenge didn ’t get that a lot — a protracted shot, due to the fact the most important film crowdfunding campaign crowned out at $5.7 million — he indicated that they might scale the venture down to meet their budget.
“The query is opposite-engineering that to the proper duration, or confidently raising sufficient to make all of the feature movie,” said Blomkamp. Even As Oats had indicated that they would shoot a short cat movie set in the international if they hit $FORTY, it seems that that used to be in jest, and that in spite of the “lots of people” who did back the challenge, there can be no Firebase sequel of any size.
Oats has seeing that taken down the pledge possibility from its retailer. We ’ve reached out to Blomkamp and Oats Studios for comment, and we ’ll replace if we hear back.
